Barnet

In the London Borough of Barnet, High Barnet or Chipping Barnet is a market town. Although this is not an official title, on antiquity playing, "Barnet Church" it continues to call itself. In London Plan, Chipping Barnet is designated as a Neighbourhood Centre.

The High Barnet ward cover Chipping Barnet centre. On the historic Great North Road, Barnet Hill is a hill. The affluent areas bearing the same name south west of High Barnet centre are served by Totteridge and Whetstone Underground station.

Near High Barnet station and Barnet Hill, there is in Vale Drive, an NHS clinic. Near Stirling Corner, London Lions F.C. is based in Barnet, but, as its own ground is not floodlit and does not meet the requirements for cup competitions, midweek the 1st team plays and at Hemel Hempstead Town F.C. some home games of the cup.

Ravenscroft Old Boys and East Barnet Old Grammarians include amateur football clubs based in Barnet. The word "Chipping" denotes the presence of a market, one that was established at the 12th century end and to this day persists, Chipping Barnet is the name of the Parliamentary constituency covering the area. Formed part of the Barnet Urban District from 1894, Chipping Barnet was a civil parish of Hertfordshire.

In 1965, the parish was abolished and the Chipping Barnet section of its area was transferred to Greater London from Hertfordshire and the newly created London Borough of Barnet. While New Barnet railway station is on East Coast Main Line served by services from King's Cross and Moorgate to Welwyn Garden City, High Barnet Underground station is on Northern line. Barnet Hospital serve Barnet.

To form one Barnet club and play their Gypsy Corner games, Old Elizabethans' Cricket Club and Barnet Cricket Club have merged. In memorial to King George V., Chipping Barnet has a Field of King George, in High Barnet, Recreation Ground of Old Court House. As well as Starbucks branches, the Coffee Bean, Carluccio's, and Costa Coffee are independent snack/coffee outlets, that High Barnet also has.
